Obituary of Murray Bercovich

June 15, 1929 - September 29, 2017

On Friday, September 29, 2017, Murray (Berky) Bercovich of Regina, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Regina, after a year-long illness. Murray was born in Regina on June 15, 1929. He was predeceased by his wife Esther Bercovich, his parents Rose and Harry (Scottie) Bercovich and his brother Arnold Bercovich. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn, son Norman (Cynie Lewin), grandson Benjamin Stueck, nieces and nephews and his many relatives and friends. Murray was an autodidact, a keen reader with a deep interest in history. He was a loyal friend, an avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved his dogs. Murray grew up in the movie business and worked at the iconic Broadway Theatre in Regina, built by his father Harry. Together with his wife, Esther, they built the family business, Magic White Western Ltd. A firm supporter of Israel, he was a member of the Beth Jacob Synagogue of Regina, where he belonged to B'nai Brith and other organizations. He was a passionate member of Ducks Unlimited (DU) for over 40 years, serving as both Provincial and National Director, and later a Director Emeritus. Like his father before him, he also belonged to the Regina Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. As well, he was a member and past president of the Regina Executive Association of Regina (EAR).

His family wishes to thank Dr. Jim MacHattie, Dr. Donovan Brown, Dr. Mohamed Abdulhadi, and the caring staff of Unit 3-3 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Beth Jacob Synagogue, 4715 McTavish St., Regina. Interment will follow at the Jewish Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, contributions may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Ducks Unlimited.
