Obituary of Kirby Graham Silcox

Kirby closed his eyes for the final time surrounded by his loved ones. He is lovingly remembered by his parents Earl and Doreen Silcox; his sister Kelly; his aunts and uncles, Lynne (Dan) Coderre, Gloria Silcox, Lloyd (Norma) Silcox, Doyle (Nancy) St. John and Ross (Laura) St. John; his cousins who were very special to him; and his dear friend Karen Hamelin. Kirby was predeceased by his grandparents, Howard and Berdene St. John and H.C. (Fat) and Doris Silcox; his uncle Lynn Silcox, and his cousin Mark St. John. Kirby received his early education at Carlyle and later at the Glenn McGuire school at Oxbow where he received the life skills training that helped him achieve independence. The Silcox family moved to Regina in 1988 and Kirby started his 27 year employment at the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, Wood Products Division. Under the guidance of John Dong and staff, Kirby became a valued employee. For the first years of his employment Kirby enjoyed the warmth of Tony and Kathy New’s home during the work week. When the New Family moved, Kirby began life with Armand and Lisa Klein. The Klein family have been a special part of our family for over 25 years. Kirby not only gained best friends but also two “little sisters,” Robyn and Renee Klein. Kirby had a quirky sense of humour. He could remember facts about everything he loved and took great joy in teasing those who meant the most to him. If you knew Kirby you probably have a “Kirby story.” We wish to extend our sincerest gratitude to the very caring and compassionate medical professionals who helped us on this journey with Multiple Myeloma; Dr. M. Aslam and nurse Helen (our oncology team), Dr. Kish Lyster and the staff of the MSU, Dr. Ian Cowan, all the wonderful staff at the Infusion Centre, Unit 3B at the Pasqua Hospital and the Allan Blair Clinic. We are also very grateful to Donna Sandor and the team of Palliative Care nurses who helped us to keep Kirby comfortable at home. Melinda Van Hove brought Kirby and his family such joy with her gift of music. Our family and friends have overwhelmed us with their phone calls, visits, and special gifts. You brought joy to Kirby and comfort to his family; And Dr. Quershi, “Kirby did stay strong like an elephant.”  Kirby’s cremated remains will be interred at a later date in the Glen Morris Cemetery, Carlyle, SK.  A Celebration of Kirby’s Life, will be held at the Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK, NEXT SATURDAY, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
