Obituary of Elizabeth Margaret Lathrope Engh

ELIZABETH MARGARET LATHROPE ENGH (NEE VOLK)

1946-2017

Elizabeth was predeceased by her first husband Lee Lathrope; parents Mike and Margaret Volk; and in-laws Doris and Charlie Lathrope. She is survived by husband Marty Engh; her two daughters Lisa (Brent) Hetterley and their children David, Greg and Mark; Renee (Brad) Young and their children Jacob and Jocelyn; Marty's children Lyle, Trevor (Amy) and their children Kaiden and Nixon, Tanya (Rick) and son Terrance; her siblings Raymond (Natalie) Volk, Fran (Robert) Jacks, Ed (Delores) Volk, Elaine (Norm) Reinhardt and Lorraine Huber; as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and her dearest best friends Marcelle Betz, Linda Brown and Bernice Belliveau and many other friends near and far too numerous to mention. Elizabeth retired from Provincial Government after 39 years where she made many lifelong friends. In retirement, she and Marty became members of the Good Sam's Club and greatly enjoyed RV'ing and the adventures and new friendships it brought. She especially enjoyed her short time in Arizona and was fond of their home there. Elizabeth enjoyed conquering crossword puzzles, tending to her beautiful flowers and made quick work of any weed that popped up, however her true passion was spending time with her daughters and grandkids whom she loved more than anything. She enjoyed playing board games with the grandkids and when they watched movies, she always promised to stay awake but was never able to make it to the end. Elizabeth loved entertaining family and loved making large meals and having everyone over to eat. The Volk Family Picnic was always something she looked forward to. Her family near and far was very special. Elizabeth loved any sport her daughters or grandkids played. She was always their number one fan and the loudest especially at softball and basketball games! She was the original Sports Mom before Sports Moms were cool and transitioned that into coolest Sports Grandma! Elizabeth passed away in the most peaceful way on Friday, December 29, 2017 with her family holding her, after a bravely fought battle with Cancer. She was in Palliative Care this past summer and was told she wouldn’t be leaving however, Elizabeth had other ideas and rallied because you could never tell her what she can’t do. She had things to do and a bucket list with things left unchecked including a campout with grandkids, camping with her brother, a good old fashion singsong at the farm with many family and friends and her most memorable feat being a horseback ride on Jocelyn’s horse. Elizabeth was the strongest and most positive woman. She was dealt some difficult cards in life but handled each one with grace and dignity, surpassing all hardships and succeeding beautifully. She will be missed for a multitude of reasons but her legacy will live on through memories of her smile, infectious laugh and always encouraging attitude. In special memory, Elizabeth asks that you hug your family tight and hold friends near always. Heartfelt thank you to the staff of 3A who lovingly cared for Mom.   A Celebration of Elizabeth’s Life will be held at St. Cecilia’s Parish, 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11a.m. with Rev.
