Obituary of Sylvia Jennie Napoleon

SYLVIA NAPOLEON

Our hearts are heavy; our eyes are burnt by tears. We lost an exemplary woman, friend, mother, grandmother and overall kind human being. Sylvia Napoleon was born on January 3, 1926 and passed away just one day before her 92nd birthday. A first generation Italian-American, Mom grew up in a typical working-class immigrant family in Brooklyn, N.Y. Always a hard worker, Mom spent many years working in the garment industry after her marriage in 1947 and the subsequent birth of two children, Joseph and Mary Jane. Mom’s greatest joy came from her relationships with family and friends. She was a kind-hearted and caring person known for her spontaneous generosity. Her wit, intelligence, New York accent and sense of humour made her favourite among people much younger than she. Mom was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1984 and her son in 2003. She is survived by her daughter Mary Jane Katz and her grandson Jack Katz. She also has a sister and two nephews in the U.S.  Many thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at the Regina General Hospital (6F) and Dr. P Gruschenko who always provided care and support to Mom. Special gratitude to Cindy Higdon who never left Mom’s side throughout her hospital stay. Cindy is an angel who guided us both through this terrible ordeal with compassion, love and sometimes even humor. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make donations to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143 Stn Main, Regina, SK S4P3G7.  Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to join in the celebration of Sylvia’s life followed by a condolence luncheon at the Speers Family Center. Interment to follow at Beth Jacob Interfaith Cemetery, Broad Street and 4th Avenue, second avenue entrance.
