Obituary of Norah Edith Powell

NORAH EDITH (LAZELL) POWELL

Norah passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Regina. Mum was born in Sunbury, Middlesex, England on August 10, 1923 and immigrated to Canada with her parents James and Mary (Wheatley), four brothers, Jim, George, Bill and Bob and one sister Mary at age five. The family settled in the Percival area and together they farmed their land, made many friends, and forged a strong family life. Over the course of 94 years, Norah moved from horse and buggy, one room school house, coal oil lamps and living off the land, to the Internet and Google and became a great fan of SKYPE and most recently learned how to FaceTime. She lived through the Depression, WWII, loss of family and friends, but never lost her faith in God and lived her life as a devout Christian. It was during the implementation of electricity that she met her husband Reg Powell, the local electrician and they were married November 25, 1959. Together they raised two children, Maureen and Ron, and lived their life together in Whitewood, Saskatchewan, surrounded by a great community of friends. Norah lived in England, attended school and spent her young life in Percival, later moving to Hamilton, Ontario, back to Percival, Whitewood, Regina, and Vancouver, BC, finally settling in Regina to be close to her family. Norah enjoyed gardening, summers at the cottage at Regina Beach, the odd glass of white wine, and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her siblings and husband Reg. Norah leaves behind her daughter Maureen (Paul Mehlsen), grandchildren, Scott (Amy), Jordana, and Taylor; son Ron (Crystal), grandchildren, Zane and Marli; and great-grandchildren, Landon and Vienna. At Norah's request there will not be a funeral service. Interment will take place in the Whitewood Cemetery with her husband Reg. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Qu'Appelle House for the kindness, care, and support provided to Norah. Toodiloo.
