Obituary of Leonard Alexander Callander

CALLANDER, Leonard

It is with profound sadness, that we announce the passing of our Dad, Papa, Great-Papa, and Friend. Len was born in Wolseley, SK and grew up on the farm until he and his siblings were moved into the Orange Home in Indian Head, SK. Dad stayed there until he was 18, and then moved to Regina, where he became a bricklayer. He also took up boxing, for which he went to the Olympic Trials in Montreal in 1955. In 1957, Dad took the opportunity to join the Regina Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Captain, prior to his retirement in 1990. Dad was also partner in a successful construction company, “Calash Concrete”. Dad loved sports. He participated in boxing, hockey, golf, baseball, and curling, just to name a few. Dad also loved to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoy their activities. However, his first love was mom and his family. Dad was predeceased by his first wife, Doris in 1953; second wife Joy in 2015; great-grandson Jaxon; parents, Jock and Mae Callander; step-mom Irene; brothers, Ron and Don; and brother-in-law Ken Nichols. Dad will be forever cherished and missed by his loving children, Drew (Brenda) and their children, Lyndsay (Simon Ash), Preston (Rachel), and Britton (Teanna), Shannon (Ward Hitchcock) and their family, Jenna (Andre), Cody (Jenny), and Katilyn (Jonathan), Jock (Stephanie) and his family, Chase (Marisa), Mackenzi (Connor), and Pierson (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Keigan, Emma, Tyler, Emerson, Samantha, Blake, Royan, Madilyn, and Ella; sisters, Audrey and Bonnie (Randy); brother Bob (Doreen); sisters-in-law, Mona and Mary; as well as many nieces and nephews, who he loved dearly. The family will always be grateful for the special and professional care provided to Dad and Mom, by the compassionate and amazing staff at Elmview Extendicare. The staff made an unbelievable difference to the quality of dad’s last seven months with us. Celebration of Life will be held at the Queensbury Convention Centre, Evraz Place, 1700 Elphinstone Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Len may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or to Parkinson Canada, 110B – 2103 Airport Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6W2.
