Obituary of Anne-Lise Hennig

HENNIG - With sad hearts, we announce the passing of Anne-Lise Muriel Hennig (nee Gammelgaard-Jensen) on July 26, 2008. She leaves to mourn her husband of 51 years, Mel; sons Doug (wife Peggy and son Nicholas) and Jeff (wife Caroline and daughters, Claire, Anna, Kate, Sophie, and Helen). She was predeceased by her father Peter Gammelgaard-Jensen, mother Helene Ericksen and sister June. Muriel was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on November 12, 1934 where she received her elementary school education. She immigrated to Canada in 1951 with her mother and sister. After a short stay on a farm in the Kipling, SK area, Muriel moved to Regina where she began her working career at age 15, first as a domestic home care and nanny and then at the Grey Nuns (now Pasqua) Hospital where she worked her way up to the responsible job as booking nurse for all surgeries performed there. Muriel married Mel Hennig in 1957. She became a stay-at-home mom, raising their sons Doug and Jeff. During this time, she completed her high school education, going on to classes at the University of Regina. She returned to the work force, beginning with the Alcohol Commission and then with the Medical Arts Clinic (now Cornwall Professional Building) where she worked for Dr. J. B. Turnbull for 30 years as his office nurse and manager. During her working years, Muriel and Mel enjoyed traveling to Calgary to visit their son Jeff's family as well as to different parts of the world for winter vacations. Muriel was renowned for her baking skills. Her apple pie was regarded as the best ever but she also excelled at cookies and squares. Muriel retired in 2003. She spent her retirement years reading, knitting, and spending time with her family. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3500 Queen Street on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Craig Moeller and Trent Feldstrom officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in remembrance of Muriel, to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 - 8th Street E., Saskatoon S7H 0S5.
