Obituary of Joan Brooker

BROOKER, Joan It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joan Brooker on August 18th, 2008 in Regina where she had lived for the past 36 years. Joan was born in London, England on February 28th, 1924, only child of Henry and Florence Leaver. She arrived in Victoria, BC in 1946 to marry Gordon, whom she had met in England on VE day in 1945. From Victoria, Gordon and Joan moved to Vancouver in 1947, then they moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1963 and they settled in Regina in 1972. She leaves to mourn her passing Gordon - her beloved husband of 61 years- and their four children: Terry, wife Judy, children Sarah and Rhys; Keith and his sons Jason and Lee, and great-granddaughter Adelle; Karen (MacFarlane), husband Bob, sons Scott and Craig; and Grant, wife Bev and daughters Ellen and Chris. Joan was predeceased by her parents many years ago and by her daughter-in-law Debbie in December 2007. Joan will be remembered lovingly by her family and friends as an avid golfer, card player and world traveller. She especially loved spending the last 23 winters in the sun at their home in Arizona. Joan's family would like to thank the staff on Unit 6F at the Regina General Hospital and at the Grace Hospice for their wonderful care and support. A Funeral Service will be held on August 21, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel (2136 College Avenue). A reception will follow at the Wascana Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in Joan's memory. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
