Obituary of Hazel Maria Whitteker

HAZEL MARIA WHITTEKER

(née URQUHART)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother on Friday, April 28, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Hazel was born in Watrous, SK, one of eleven children to Robert and Elsie Urquhart. After graduating from Balfour Tech, she moved to Vancouver, where she later met and married Walter Whitteker. In 1954, they relocated to Regina, where Hazel worked for many years for SaskPower, retiring in 1983. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Walter; sons-in-law, David Allard and Brian Savage; five sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her children, Donna (Doug) Pomfret and their children, Chris (Lori) and Terri (Rupen), David (Sandi) Whitteker and their children, Adam and Jena (Drew) of Langley, B.C., Sharon Savage and her children, Carol-Lynn (Dwain) of Courtenay, B.C., and Laura (Jeremy), Blaine (Pat) Whitteker and their children, Ashley (Andrew), Jamie (Jesse) of Petawawa, ON, Adam (Jessica) of  Calgary, AB, Alta, and Sarai (Mark); fourteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Grace) of Ontario, and Malcolm; as well as many nieces and nephews. In earlier years Hazel enjoyed travelling, camping, cooking, gardening, and spending time with grandchildren and friends. She was an avid bowler, challenging crib player, had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and a generous spirit. Hazel’s creative talents of knitting and crocheting were enjoyed by family and friends.  In her later years, she took up listening to stories on audio books, visiting in Langley, and spending time with family and friends. Hazel will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.  A Come and Go Tea will be held at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hazel may be made to the charity of your choice.
