Obituary of Emily Clifford Thompson

Emily Clifford (Cliffy) Thompson late of Regina Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully at Sunset Extendicare in Regina on Wednesday April 11, 2018 at the age of 102. She was predeceased by her husband Francis “Bud” Thompson; parents Sarah and Edward Clifford; her brothers Ernie and John Clifford; sisters Margery McKague and Mary Chandler; and grandson Colin. Emily is survived by her older brother Frank Clifford; son Ken Thompson (Barb); grandchildren Malina Poppy (Lee), Matthew Thompson (Heather Callander); and her great-grandchildren Chase, Declan, Jasper, Braelyn, Damian, and Cole. Emily was born on August 1, 1915 in Hedenham, Norfolk, England. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1925 and settled in Alberta. She completed high school and went to teachers’ college. While teaching in Northern Alberta she met her future husband before the war. On December 28, 1945, they married and moved to Saskatoon and four years later moved to Prince Albert, where they spent a big part of their life. Emily enjoyed the outdoors, with many camping trips, hikes and other excursions. She curled, danced and was a grandmaster in duplicate bridge. A move to Calgary in 1976 was followed by a move back to Saskatchewan in 1999 to be closer to family. She spent the final years of her life in Regina, Saskatchewan, maintaining as active a lifestyle as she could. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends so wishing may make memorial donations in Emily’s name to the Family Support Group of Sunset Extendicare, 260 Sunset Drive, Regina, SK.
