Obituary of Dorothy Phoebe Nixon

Dorothy Nixon (nee Warwick) of Regina passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011. Dorothy was born on October 5, 1918 in the Grenfell District. She was predeceased by her husband Jim Nixon in 2007; parents John and Olive Warwick; brothers Chester Warwick and Cecil (Edna) Warwick; brother-in-law Don Crawford; and nephew Terry Warwick all of Grenfell. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Marilyn Nixon of Austin, Texas; son Bob (Drina) and grandchildren Duncan and Andrina Nixon of Calgary, Alberta. She is also survived by her brother Glenn (Jean) Warwick of Peachland, BC; two sisters Viola Crawford of Grenfell and Eileen (Bill) Clarkson of Toronto, Ontario; sister-in-law Ethel Warwick-Hardy (Ed) of Grenfell; sisters-in-law Irene Nixon and Gwen Lee of Outlook, Saskatchewan; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wants to sincerely thank Viola, Mark and Brenda Crawford, her many life-long friends and many friends at Marion Park for their continued support network. Dorothy grew up on the family farm near Grenfell where she developed strong love of family, friends and a strong work ethic. She had an entrepreneurial spirit, owning a hair salon before meeting Jim, the love of her life. Dorothy and Jim moved to Regina where they started their family and had 61 great years together. Dorothy supported Jim in all his initiatives with work, the Masons, Shrine and Gyro. She also supported Marilyn and Bob in their education, careers, family and loved being with her grandchildren. Dorothy had a big heart, helping others in need and was an active volunteer with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Wesley United Church and Gyrettes. She was part of two bridge groups, had a passion for cooking and gardening. Over the last few years, Dorothy dealt head-on with cancer, hearing and eye problems with grace and determination. Our memories of Dorothy include her sense of humor, humility and kindness, her love of being with family and friends, her spirit and humanity and the twinkle in her eyes. A Memorial Service will be held as a Celebration of Dorothys Life at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Friday April 29, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, 2341 Broad Street, Regina, SK, S4P 1Y9; the Shriner's Hospital for Children c/o Wa Wa Temple, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2E1 or to a charity of choice.
