Obituary of Lauren Rice

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Lauren Rice of Lumsden, SK after a long, brave struggle with cancer. Lauren passed comfortably at home with her entire family by her side. Predeceased by her mother (Bertha) Joan? Barber and her father William John Bill? Barber; Lauren is survived by her loving husband Jim; sons Joseph Cowen (Jo-Anna) and Andrew; daughters Morgan (Paul Darbellay) and Jami; and siblings Verne (Margo) Barber and nephew Nash, and Sharon Barber. Lauren was a full-time nurse at P.H.C., then V.O.N. and R.Q.H.D. as a home care nurse. She touched the lives of many people before retiring to care for her special needs son Andrew and to pursue her love of gardening and quilting. Special thanks to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, especially Drs Rayson, Sadikov and ChalChal as well as the Palliative Care Unit for their caring and concerned attitude, especially Drs L. Clein and B. Lotz and nurses Trudy, Jan and Jill. A private memorial service will be held. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. at the Lumsden Community Hall, Lumsden, SK. This will be an informal come and go opportunity to share memories and smiles.
