Obituary of Piotta Deringer

Piotta Deringer Beaut? passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 surrounded and cared for by her family. Piotta was born in the Kendal District on April 6, 1923 to Magdalena (Rink) and Daniel Kress. She grew up on the farm and attended Petersville School. In 1941, she married Joseph and they farmed at Billimun near Mankota. After living briefly in Regina, they bought the Hotel in Montmartre in 1963 where they worked and raised a family of eight. In 1972, they returned to the house beside the church on Douglas Avenue. Mom worked at the Book and Brier with her sister Phyllis and brother John. Six years ago, they moved to Broadway Terrace where she quickly made many friends. Mom lived her faith everyday; she filled our lives with love. Her hands were always busy, embroidering, baking, playing cards, doing puzzles. She whistled and sang as she worked, baking those fabulous cinnamon buns or cooking for the masses. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. How blessed we are to have had you in our lives! Piotta is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph, and her eight favorite children: Madeline Bolen (John) of Victoria, BC; James Deringer (Sharon); Robert Deringer (Lillian) of Montmartre, SK; Rosalinda Deringer (Doug) of Minden, ON; Charles Deringer (Judy) of Salmon Arm, BC; Jo-Ann Chatterson (Laurie) of Wolseley, SK; Ingrid Tourigny (Gerald) of Katepwa, SK; Karl Deringer (Anne) of Rwanda, Africa; and niece Rosalie De Jong (Ron). Piotta is also survived by her grandchildren: Samantha Bolen (Ron), Tim Bolen, Heather Sands (Craig), Keith Deringer, Derrick Deringer (Jesse), Amanda Lee (Steve), Ian Duncombe (Joanne), Claire Duncombe, Tessa Rawski (Jake), Leeanna Deringer, Jesse Chatterson, Dana Veroba (Andrew), Kyle Chatterson, Matthew Chatterson and Tania Baronet-Deringer (Mary); her sweet great-grandchildren, sixteen and counting; her step-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers Mag Boire, Phyllis Baseden (Ken), Frances Heck (George), George Kress (Loretta), John Kress (Sonya); sister-in-law Doreen Kress; brother-in-law Wendall Knoll; and many other family members who loved her. Piotta was predeceased by sisters Mary Hoffman (Martin), Regina Knoll; brothers Dan Kress, Anthony Kress and brothers-in-law Alex Runge and Adelard Boire. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross RC Church, 315 Douglas Avenue East, Regina on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Nguyen presiding.
