Obituary of Thelma Gerturde Jacobs

Thelma Gertrude (Ames) Jacobs, age 94, passed away January 25, 2011. She was born July 21, 1916 to Charles E. Ames and Margaret O. (Mooney) Ames on the Ames Farm NE 32-11-19 W2, which is southwest of Milestone. She grew up, helping on the home farm and attended school in Milestone plus one year at the University of Saskatchewan, achieving her A.T.C.M. (Association of the Toronto Conservatory of Music) from the Lyell Gustin Studio. She taught music lessons in Milestone and traveled by train to Yellow Grass to teach at 35 cents a half hour lesson in the 30s. Music has been a large part of her life through church activities, especially the choir, where she participated for 72 years. On June 29, 1940 she married Gerald J. H. Jacobs, who also lived his entire life in Milestone. They enjoyed their farm life together and in later years, square and round dancing and traveling extensively. Thelma was active in the community through church groups, the local history book and Drop-In-Centre. She liked working with numbers and found the financial markets intriguing. She is predeceased by husband, Gerald, daughter-in-law, Karon Jacobs, sisters Iola (Walter) Johnston, Vera (Dave) Widder, brother Roy (Grace) (Edna) Ames, brothers-in-law Bert Fea, Harry Hannaford, Garvin (Josie) Jacobs. Survived by: son Darryl (Helen); daughters Donna (Dwayne) Barber, Cheryl (Glenn) Renwick, Grandchildren: Jim (Chantelle) Jacobs and Adam & Julie; Deborah (Dale) Jackson, and Dales son Evan; Nancy Green (friend Nick) and Travis, Courtney & Tyler; Krista Gayle (Perry) Herr and Taylor & Cody: Gaylene (Tim) Padman and Amanda; Carmen (Nathan) Sampson; Sister-in-law Marvel (Jacobs) Hannaford. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at Milestone United Church, January 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Milestone cemetery.
