Obituary of Bessie Rachel Fishley

Bessie, dearly beloved Mother, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Predeceased by her parents, James (Alec) and Alice Henderson; stepmother Sarah (Sadie) Henderson; beloved husband John A. Fishley; daughter-in-law Michelle Fishley; brothers Robert (Jean) Henderson and John (Elizabeth) Henderson; half-brothers Thomas Henderson, Scott (Teresa) Henderson, Ross Henderson; half-sister Lorna (Henderson) and Donald Bryce, brothers-in-law Wesley Wells, Lawrence Burgess and William Klatt; and sister-in-law, Diana Fishley. Bessie is survived by her beloved son Vern (Carol) Fishley of Regina SK, grandchildren James Cook also of Regina SK, and Christina (Kevin) Stimson of Edmonton AB and great-granddaughter Morgan Gwen Stimson also of Edmonton; sister Marion Wells of Strasbourg SK; half-sisters Fern (Lawrence) Coey of Winnipeg MB, Muriel (Joseph) Markusson of Churchbridge SK; brothers-in-law Stuart (Rose) Fishley of Bethune SK and Blake Fishley of Regina SK; sisters-in-law Hazel Burgess of Oshawa ON, Ruby Klatt of Regina SK, Wilma (Roy) Trumbley of Regina SK, Reta (James) Kennedy of Regina SK and Helen Kufley of Daughin MB; and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. Bessie was born and raised on the Henderson farm (Section 20, Township 1, Range 30, West of the 1st Meridian, Winlaw District) Gainsborough SK. She left home upon employment with Dr. Sharff and his family of Saskatoon and was inspired to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. It was while she was employed at the Regina General Hospital that she met her future husband John while attending at Knox Metropolitan Church. She and John were married in 1956 and they became parents to their only child, Vern, in 1957. Bessie was a devoted wife for nearly three decades until Johns passing in 1985 and continued to be a loving mother until her passing. She was an active church member at Westminster United Church and had affiliations with the Canadian Club of Canada; the Old Timers Association; and, the Saskatchewan History and Folklore Society. Later in life, she was very happy to become a grandmother to James and Christina and great-grandmother to Morgan. She was a sincere friend to many ladies and an active, involved neighbour. Bessie will be laid to rest beside her loving husband of 29 years at a private interment in Regina Memorial Gardens preceding the service. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Pastor James Chimirri-Russell (of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church) who gratefully will officiate. Family and friends are invited to share their remembrances at a luncheon to immediately follow, at the same location. Flowers most gratefully declined.
