Obituary of Roy Dahl

Roy Dahl 1907 - 2011 With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Roy Dahl on February 14, 2011 at the age of 103. Roy was born May 28, 1907 on a farm outside Outlook Saskatchewan to a family of six brothers and three sisters. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan and Teaching Certificate through Normal School. He started his career as a public and high school teacher in the Outlook area before moving to Regina and working 10 years as a meteorologist for the Federal Government. The war years saw him instructing the RCAF in meteorology. In 1948 he joined the Saskatchewan Government becoming Director of Petroleum Lands until his retirement in 1972. Roy's major interest throughout his life was singing, beginning with his formation of a men's quartette which toured the province from 1929 to 1931. He became a Mason in 1947 and joined the Shrine singing as a member of the Wa Wa Chanters and Chanters Quartette. He was active with the Lakeview Church particularly the Choir and in his later years sung with the Regina Seniors Centre Choir. At 103 he continued to sing whenever the opportunity arose. Roy also took an avid interest in sports, playing baseball, golf and curling well into his 90's. He keenly followed professional sports, especially the Roughriders. Roy valued most the love and company of his family, friends and relatives. Song and laughter together was his greatest joy. In his passing he is reunited with Madeline (Code), his beloved wife of 56 years; his mother and father; brothers and sisters; and his dear friend Doris Morrison. Roy is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter Carolyn (Dr. John Kim); his grandchildren: Cindy, Sunny (Dr. Brian Goertz), and Dr. Paul Kim (Dr. Jarmila Kim); his nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Until his passing he blessed us with his heartwarming stories, songs, humor and presence. His kindness, honesty and gentle understanding will live in our hearts forever. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday February 20, 2011 at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Shriners Hospitals for Children or Lutheran Bible College, Outlook SK.
