Obituary of Arthur Gordon Strickland

LT. COLONEL ARTHUR G. STRICKLAND, CD On December 2, 1927, Art arrived into the world and after a long life full of good times of raising a family, dedication to the Canadian Military, hunting beast and fowl and loving the great outdoors; he departed on his last great adventure on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Dad was predeceased by his parents Norman and Beatrice Strickland; his first wife Grace; sisters May Cassidy and Helen Cawley; brother Harold Strickland; brothers-in-law Bill Cassidy, Jerry Biden and Art Cawley; and sisters-in-law Ruth Strickland and Iris Strickland. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Erna; daughters Judee Strickland; Wendy McRadu (Garry); grandchildren Jennifer David (Dennis); Shannon McRadu and Tim McRadu; brother Bill Strickland; sister Joan Biden; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Moosomin in the little red brick house on the north side of the school.? He spent his early years in Broadview and at the age of 14, joined the Canadian Armed Forces as a boy soldier and continued through the ranks until his final post, a Lt. Colonel in charge of the 10th Field Regiment in Regina. He started working in Broadview with the railroad and was a volunteer fireman for the town. As his family grew, he moved us to Regina and he started working as the Chief Building Superintendant at Lakeview United Church, where he stayed until his retirement after 35 years of dedication. Dads love of nature took us on many camping trips and every fall the ducks would call and off he went for days of much loved hunting. After retirement, he and Erna purchased their first house and he pursued his love of woodwork and gardening and just enjoying the bright Saskatchewan sunshine on the deck, always pen in hand to doodle or a book to read. A private family interment will be followed by a celebration luncheon of Dads life at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Look out Heaven, a great storyteller has arrived to entertain you with tales of hunting trips, military life and growing up in small town Saskatchewan.
