Obituary of Kenneth Arndt

Kenneth Wilfred Arndt passed away Sunday morning, May 29, 2011 at the Regina Pasqua Hospital. Ken was predeceased by his father Charles Arndt, mother Maria (Mary) nee Webber, stepfather James Moulton; sister Rose Hodgins, Herman; nephew Harvey Hodgins. Ken is survived by Louise his loving wife, of 58 years; Children: Howard, Dr. Susanne, and Richard; Grandchildren: Roxanne and Rigel, Michael and Lucy, Jana and Devin, respectively. Daughters-in-Law: Catherine, Audrey, and Brigitta, Sons-in-Law: Dr. Doug, and Gavin. Brother-in-law: Robert Strobel. He is also survived by many cousins. Ken was born on the farm in the Filmore district, November 25, 1923. The family moved to Ontario, where Ken started school. Returning to Saskatchewan Ken resumed his education in a one room school house at Franks Lake, then St. Joseph and Sacred Heart Elementary Schools and Campion College High School in Regina. Ken worked part time at the Regina Book Exchange to pay for his education and pursue his love of reading. Ken joined the RCAF in 1941 and saw Canadian postings in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec. Ken contracted Rheumatic fever prior to being posted over seas and spent the rest of the war years at the air base in Mossbank as an air gunner instructor. After the war Ken started his Civil Service career with the Saskatchewan Department of Revenue where he met Louise the love of his life. Through dedicated work, completion of Queens University classes he attained his accounting designation, saw many promotions and retired in 1980 from the Department of Mineral Resources as the Chief Financial Officer. Ken married Louise Strobel in June of 1953 and three children followed. The family enjoyed many vacations together across Canada, Northeastern USA and Alaska. After Kens retirement Ken and Louise enjoyed touring Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, Caribbean and the South Pacific. Besides his family Ken had four great loves: his Church - Lakeview United; working with youth through the Boy Scouts; the Royal Canadian Legion; and his hobby Philately. A Celebration of Kens Life will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Eskdale and Rev. Jo Mader officiating.
