Obituary of Nina Gertrude Brandt

BRANDT, Nina Gertrude (Golberg) -- At Regina General Hospital on June 17, 2011 peacefully in her 102nd year. Born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan on August 27, 1909, the "middle child" of seven children of the late Oscar Oliver Golberg and Louise Kristianne Golberg (Boland). Beloved wife of the late Kurt Arthur Brandt (1979). Loved by her son Gregory Brandt (Winifred Holland), grandson Michael Brandt; her step-grandchildren, Nicholas and Jennifer Holland and her great grandchildren: Jacob Brandt, Camdyn and Cait Holmes, Andrew and Adam Holland and Ivan Brandt. Predeceased by her sisters Thelma and Grace and her brothers Otto, Oliver, and Claude. Survived by her brother Howard, her nieces Karen and Dorothy and many other nephews and nieces. Nina grew up and went to school in Wilkie Saskatchewan and, following her marriage to Kurt Brandt in 1936, lived in Winnipeg until she and her young family moved to Edenwold Saskatchewan where they farmed until 1947 when they moved to Regina where her husband began working for the Government of Saskatchewan, Department of Agriculture until his retirement. While in Regina she worked as a clerk at Simpson's for a number of years where she obtained her "real education". She was an avid bridge player and a devoted fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for all of her life and, on the occasion of her 100th birthday, she was thrilled by the presentation of a personally autographed photograph of Andy Fantuz. The family wishes to express its gratitude to all of the staff on Ward 5F at Regina General Hospital for their care and compassion in the last weeks of Nina's life. Following a private service at Riverside Memorial Park where her cremated remains will be interred a Celebration of Life will be held at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina on Wednesday, June 22 commencing at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to express sympathy may either send flowers or make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
