Obituary of Lloyd Douglas Gordon

Lloyd Douglas Gordon passed away at the Regina General Hospital on Thursday, the 4th of August, 2011 at the age of 90 years. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife and retired school teacher, Vivian Valley formerly of Oak Lake, Manitoba. On the 11th of April, 2011 they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents George and Alice Gordon; sisters Violet Thorn, Myrtle Thorn and Eva Vincer; and brothers Everett and Leslie. Lloyd was born and raised on a farm located near Wapella, SK where he attended high school and played hockey and baseball with local teams. During those days, Lloyd worked on the Gordon diary and grain farm. Lloyds father George was a member of the North West Mounted Police and in 1941, Lloyd followed in his fathers footsteps and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He trained in Regina and Rockcliffe, Ontario and served in further postings in Ontario at Cobourg, Ottawa and Toronto. He later served at Carmen, Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. Lloyd retired from the Force in Ottawa in 1964 with the rank of Staff Sergeant and he was a recipient of the RCMP Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Following retirement from the RCMP, Lloyd and Vivian returned to the farm near Wapella for a period of three years. Lloyd then worked as camp manager during the construction of the Sylvite potash mine in Rocanville, SK from 1968 to 1970. Lloyd and Vivian then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where Lloyd was engaged in security work. His last assignment was security at the Royal Mint. Lloyd and Vivian enjoyed their leisure years in Kelowna, BC and Regina. At both locations, Lloyd was a member as well as a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Veterans Association and participated in their many events. At the time of Lloyds passing, he was residing at the Victoria Park Personal Care Community in Regina. Lloyd will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends. The family would like to thank the doctors and medical staff at the Regina General Hospital for their compassion and care while he was in hospital.
