Obituary of Joan Margaret Stewart

It comes with great sadness to announce the passing of Joan Margaret Stewart (nee Burrows) on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the age of 88. Joan was born in Shoreditch, England on December 30, 1922. Joan was an L/Cpl in the A.T.S. Service in Britain during World War II. Following the war, Joan arrived in Canada in March of 1946, as a war bride. As her children grew, Joan embarked on a career for herself. Initially, she began working at the R.C.M.P. barracks, but the highlight of her career was working at the Santa Maria Nursing Home, where she showed much care and dedication to working with the elderly. Throughout her life, Joan was rarely seen without knitting needles in hand. While Joan enjoyed many passions in her life, her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she loved her family. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Jane Burrows; her sister and brother, Lillian and Henry; as well as her husband, Douglas. Joan will be sadly missed by her children: Barbara, Robert (Bonnie), Deborah (Brian), Shirley (Herb), Terry (Patricia), and Sherry (Blair); as well as her fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Many thanks go to the wonderful nurses and doctors on CSU and 4A of the Pasqua Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Williams, Dr. Prasad, Nurse Shawna and Rev. Carlos Roberts, whose compassion and care were above and beyond all exception. We request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Joan to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8 or to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Regina Chapter, 1545C McAra Street, Regina, SK, S6N 6H4. In keeping with Joans wishes, a private family service will be held to celebrate her life. You will always be remembered for being a caring, compassionate and loving person. You are sadly missed by everyone youve touched and will be our angel watching over us.
