Obituary of William David George Pomfret

1921 - 2011 Bill, late of Regina, formerly of Regina Beach, passed away peacefully at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre on Monday, August 29, 2011. Predeceased by his loving wife Hazel, infant son, twin sister Marie and brother Mark; Bill is survived by his son Doug Butch? (Donna); grandchildren Christopher (Lori) and Terri (Rupen); great-grandchildren Devlin, Connor, Safia, Mela; special friend Kristine Walter; dear sister-in-law Marie Britton and numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Ontario, Bill met and married the love of his life Hazel Thompson. Bill joined the 48th Highlanders during World War II which led to an extensive military career. In 1954 he was given the opportunity to join the RCMP as a training instructor and moved to Regina with his wife and son. He served in many capacities with the RCMP, first as a Physical Training Instructor, then a Drill Instructor, Sergeant Major and finally as a Corps Sergeant Major until his retirement in 1977. Bill served as Commissioner of the St. John Ambulance Brigade from 1980 to 1986. Bill loved his golfing, getting together with friends, cooking, country music, teaching line dancing and attending various Police Association golf tournaments in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held at RCMP Chapel, 6101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. A Private family interment will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkside Extendicare Nursing Home and the Veterans wing of the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre for their loving care and support.
