Obituary of Barbara Ann Wetterstrand

Surrounded by the love of her family and friends, Barbara passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2011. She was predeceased by her parents, Sid and Mary Bauer and her father and mother-in-law, Fred and Helen Wetterstrand. Barb is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her husband Gerry; daughter Tracy; son Bradley (Sarah); siblings, Bill (Brenda) and family, Joe (Jenny) and family, including Barbs great-nephews, Alex and Nathan, who always brought a smile to her face, and Doug and family. Barb will also be sadly missed by numerous other family and friends. Over the years, Barb developed many lifetime friendships, but none stronger than with her BFF? Norma. Barb was born in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan on September 17, 1945. On February 27, 1965, she married the love of her life, her soulmate, Gerry Wetterstrand in Yorkton. They lived in Prince Albert until November of 1966. Barb and Gerry then moved to Ghana, West Africa to take part in a Canadian aid project for irrigation development for food security. They lived there for three years until moving home to Regina in October of 1969, where they have since lived and proudly raised their two children, Tracy and Bradley. Barb loved creative endeavors and was constantly learning new crafts. She enjoyed spending time in her sewing room, surrounded by fabric and books. Barb was especially gifted at embroidery, sewing, quilting, cardmaking, and making tamari balls. She loved to add to her stash? and every new place was an opportunity to find fabulous new fabric for a future project. A Celebration of Barbs Life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be broadcast live on the Speers Funeral Chapel website. The family would like to thank the superb 3B nursing team and Dr. Zarkovic at the Pasqua Hospital for the compassionate and high level of care that they provided for Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina SK, S4P 2R3 or to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 3356 Stn. Main, Regina SK, S4P 3H1.
