Obituary of Sarah Adam Crooks

Sally passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2011. Predeceased by her husband James in 1996, Sally is survived by her son, Andrew (Jana) and their children, Colin, Jenna, Sean and Sara; and her daughter, Catriona (Rod) Allen and their daughter Katie. Sally was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland 1927. She trained in music and theatre arts at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, England in the early 50s and subsequently, for several years, pursued a professional career singing in an Ice Show travelling extensively throughout Great Britain. In 1965, with her husband and two children, Sally immigrated to Regina, Saskatchewan. Soon after arriving in Regina, Sally obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus. After a short stint at Herchmer Elementary School, she was placed at Sheldon Williams Collegiate where she ended her career in 1988. Throughout her rich life in Regina, Sally pursued her musical interests through directing church and community choirs, as well as being an active member singing in such choirs as the Regina Ladies Choir, Treble Clef, and The Regina Philharmonic Choir as well as several church groups St. Andrews, Lakeview and most recently the First Presbyterian Choir. Her dramatic talents led her to acting and directing with the Regina Little Theatre where she became an honorary Life Member. As well, Sally performed for many years in musicals produced by Regina Lyric Light Opera Society, and Regina Summer Stage. More recently Sally found her passion in front of a movie camera, acting in several movies such as Just Friends and Tidelands as well as TV with Corner Gas and Little Mosque on the Prairie. As if that wasnt busy enough, Sallys other huge passion was writing! She wrote for many years, both non-fiction and poetry, where she received several awards. She wrote two books of her life experiences in Scotland and Canada, most notably being the recipient of the 2007 John V. Hicks Long Manuscript Award for non-fiction for her book entitled That Saturday Night.
