Obituary of Richard Bell

Dick Bell passed from this earth early Saturday morning. Left to cherish his memory is Betty, his bride? of 58 years. He will be greatly missed by sons, Richard and Robert Bob?; grandchildren, Erica, Jacob Mitch?, Michael and Mason; sister-in-law, Dodie Bell; numerous nieces and nephews, and many special friends. Dick was predeceased by his parents Tom and Nellie Bell, daughter Robbin (2009), sister Margaret Voss, and brothers George, Bill and Huddy. To know Dick was to love him. His positive attitude, natural humor, and beautiful smile were an inspiration to all. Dick lost his legs in an accident at age 10, but it never held him back. With the support of family and friends he built an enviable life. Dick was in the construction industry, building houses, apartments and commercial properties throughout the province. Dick was one of the finest amputee golfers in Saskatchewan. He was a life member at the Wascana Country Club. He won the US Western Amputee Golfers Association Championship on several occasions and was awarded a lifetime membership in this association. Some highlights in his golf memories were playing with Tom Watson and Sam Snead in Pro-Am tournaments and his hole-in-one at the Wascana. Dick and Betty hosted the Dick & Betty Bell Cosmopolitan Golf Classic which ran for 15 years, raising money for the Cosmopolitan Activity Centre in Regina. He was also a member of the Queen City Kinsmen Club. Dick enjoyed many family vacations when the children were younger, and snowmobiling was a favorite family activity. For many years Dick and Betty have enjoyed Saskatchewan winters in Arizona. Not long ago he mandated that his funeral could not be on a Wednesday, which is Mens Day at the Wascana, because none of his friends would come! A Funeral Service for Dick will be held at St. Matthews Anglican Church, 2161 Winnipeg Street, Regina on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Thank you to Dr. Kriek for his excellent care over the years. Thanks also to the caring staff at Sunset Extendicare for looking after Dick in his last months. In lieu of flowers, you may choose to make a donation to the Family Support Group of Extendicare Sunset, 260 Sunset Drive, Regina, SK, S4S 2S3.
