Obituary of Bernice Leslie Lys

BERNICE LESLIE LYS July 6, 1943 September 4, 2011 With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother. Bernice passed away Sunday after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her mother Louise Lucas; Bernice is lovingly remembered by her husband of 43 years, William (Bill); sons Patrick (Lesley) and Stephen (Catherine); daughter Natasha; grandchildren Alicia, Lucas, Taylor, Jessica, and Tristan; father Clarence Lucas; sister Judith Bethune; nieces Tracey (Rick) Sellers, and Crystal Hart; nephew Jade and many cousins, special friends and extended family. Born and raised in the Mazenod area, Bernice graduated Education from the University of Saskatchewan and taught for many years in Regina and surrounding areas before becoming involved with the Saskatchewan Correspondence School eventually serving as Principal until she retired in 2001. A wonderful cook, avid gardener, and loyal Rider fan; in retirement, Bernice found great joy in her grandchildren, family, and friends. In recent years she was an active advocate for cancer patient safety and care, serving on several boards/committees for the Regina QuAppelle Health Region and Saskatchewan Cancer Agency with a focus on improving patient safety and the compassionate link medical professionals have with their patients. In lieu of flowers, donations, in memoriam, to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1 would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Chalchal and the staff of the Allan Blair Centre, as well as the compassionate staff of 3A and 3B at the Pasqua Hospital and Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.
