Obituary of June Georgette Murkett
MURKETT, June
(nee Clark)
June 1929 – September 2020
Our Aunt June was a true prairie rose. Born south of Moose Jaw, where her birth certificate read the location in degrees and minutes. There was evidence of her heritage in local pictures and figurines throughout their home. Sheaves of wheat, dried and spun glass. She loved animals and was a kind, gentle, compassionate person. June and Stan had many happy years with friends and neighbours on Coronation and Wedgewood Way. Alas, in 2017 her Stanley passed away after almost 65 years of marriage. They had no children, but she adopted us nieces and nephews. How lucky we were to have such an Auntie. When Dementia descended she continued “to care” for her fellow residents, known lovingly as “June Bug.” There was however, a core of steel that carried her through tough physical ailments. Still smiling and thankful. The last of her family to survive. She amazed us all. Our thanks to the staff at Riverbend Crossing, especially in her final days. A particular thanks to Janet, her companion, for the fantastic care she always gave. A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of June to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc., 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit June’s Tribute Page at www.speersfuneralchapel.com. Sleep well our dear, dear Auntie! Now you are with your Stan, Mom, Dad and siblings. Able to roam Heaven’s Prairie.
