Obituary of Muriel Susan Brennecke
BRENNECKE, Muriel Susan
February 3, 1916 - September 16, 2020
Though it is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Aunt Muriel, we also rejoice in the fact that she lived a long, full life spanning 104 years! Muriel was the oldest of four children born to William and Annie Greenwood. She spent the first 10 years of her life on a farm near Verwood, SK until they relocated to the Greenwood family farm near Readlyn, SK. After leaving home, Muriel held various jobs in several small Saskatchewan towns before beginning her career with Simpson’s Ltd. in downtown Regina. She remained there for 32 years, seven months until her retirement in 1979. Muriel married her husband Wilf Brennecke in October of 1955 and together they enjoyed travelling, golfing, playing cards with family and friends and were season ticket holders for the Roughriders for many years. Muriel continued to cheer the Riders on after Wilf’s passing in 2004, faithfully watching every game on TV. She also enjoyed watching the Blue Jays and continued to enjoy playing cards, bingo and going for coffee at Tim Horton’s right up until March 2020 when the pandemic was declared. The isolation and restrictions of Covid-19 took a great toll on Muriel’s mental and physical well-being. Muriel was predeceased by her parents, William and Annie Greenwood; her husband Wilf Brennecke; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth (Cecil) Stirling and Evelyn (Raymond) Hannan; her brother Harold Greenwood; her niece Marge (Hannan) Ordano and nephew Daryl Hannan. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her sister-in-law, Bernice Greenwood, Surrey, BC; nieces, Wendy (Bill) Clarkson, Calgary, AB, Linda (Rich) Sims, Nanaimo, BC, Joanne (John) Kirby, Regina, Janet (Paul) Lermitte, Vancouver, BC, Beth (Greg) King, Regina; nephew Brian (Mel) Greenwood, Surrey, BC and their extended families. Muriel is also survived by Wilf’s nieces, Darlene Mooney, Debby Mooney, Lynn Mooney and Doris Mooney and their families, from BC. The family would like to sincerely thank the wonderful caregivers on the Personal Care floor at College Park II for their kindness and compassion shown to Muriel in her short time there but especially in her final days. Thank you also to her friends and staff at the Renaissance which she had called home for the past four years. A private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park in Regina.
