Obituary of Freda Frusina Avram

AVRAM, Freda

(nee Banda)

1926 – 2020

Freda (Frusina) Avram passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at the age of 93 years. Last of her family, she was predeceased by her husband Dan (Dumitru); parents Vasile and Mary Banda; brothers Tom, Wesley and George; sisters Mary, Eva, Rose, Jean and Vicky; and infant grandson Michael. Freda is survived her sons Daniel (Traci) and Darrell (Rosemary); grandsons Connor, James, Robert, David and Thomas; as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Kayville, SK, being raised in a large, close farm family during the hard times of the 1930’s shaped the person Freda would become. We were shown by word and example to be kind, be thankful, be positive, never gossip and always be willing to learn. Freda married Dan, who she had known since childhood, in 1944 and moved to Regina after the war to begin a supportive and living partnership. She held several jobs before settling into a rewarding career at The Bay in downtown Regina, where she made many long-lasting and close friendships. After Dan passed away in 1988, she remained in the family home, keeping it, the yard and garden spotless. Independent and organized, there was always time to socialize with friends and family who might drop by- a cup of tea and fresh baking was always close at hand. If you were lucky, you would be served cabbage rolls or other hearty Romanian food. As she slowly slipped away, it was comforting to know that her gentle strength and guidance will always be an inspiration. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Selo Gardens Personal Care Home for their loving and considerate care over the past few years. Thanks also to the nurses and doctors on 3F at the Regina General Hospital for their exceptional care during Freda’s final days. A private family service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donation in Freda’s name may be made to the Alzheimer Society Canada, 20 Eglinton Avenue West, 16th Floor, Toronto, ON M4R 1K8.
