WELYKHOLOWA, Anne

1930 – 2020

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Anne Welykholowa announces her peaceful passing at the Pasqua Hospital, 3A Palliative Care Unit on September 24, 2020 at the age of 90, after a short, courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents, Karnoli and Martha Koroluk; brothers, John (Pauline) Koroluk, and Metro Koroluk; in-laws Bill and Anne Welykholowa; brother-in-law Arthur Welykholowa; niece Helen Koroluk, and nephew Jeffrey Koroluk. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, William; son Brian (Delphine) Welykholowa; daughter Lori (Duane) Lavoy; 5 grandchildren: Kevin Welykholowa (Marnie), Kelsey (John) Stene, Kyle (Carley) Welykholowa, Landon Lavoy, and Kegan Lavoy; 6 great grandchildren: Halle, Gavin, Lily, Oskar, Isabelle, and Topanga; sister Mary (John) Welykholowa; sisters-in-law Liz (Garth) Shafer, and Winnie Koroluk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anne was born in Kamsack, SK. She attended school there and after graduation from grade 12, began working for the Bank of Montreal. She worked there for 3 years. Anne married her sweetheart William on June 4, 1952, and moved to Regina. She continued to work for the Bank of Montreal in Regina for 3 more years until they built their own drug store – William’s Drugs. She worked there for 41 years until their retirement in 1997.

Anne was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Choir and the Ukrainian Orthodox Women’s Association – Daughter’s of the Ukraine, Regina Branch. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, skating, singing, playing cards, making cabbage rolls, perogies, Christmas and Easter bread. She enjoyed many summers at their cabin at Madge Lake and enjoyed watching all her grandchildren Ukrainian dance and perform at Mosaic and Crystal Lake Ukrainian Camp. She enjoyed carrying on traditions of Ukrainian Easter and Christmas, cooking up a feast where no one ever left hungry.

The family would like to thank many individuals who helped make the last days of her journey comfortable. Special thanks to Pasqua Hospital staff and Doctors of Unit 3A, 3B, and 3D, Dr. Belak, the Palliative Home Care Team, and Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Feskiv of Descent of the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
