FARIS, George

George Faris, of Wilcox, SK, passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday, September 26, 2020 with his wife and youngest son by his side. The oldest of six children, he was born to parents Rennie and Tillie Faris in Melville, Saskatchewan. During his childhood, he spent time living in Saskatchewan and Ontario. Eventually his family settled in Wilcox where he met and married his wife Nancy and raised four children. Over the years, the family grew to include several grandchildren. Like many men of his generation, he was a diligent and sometimes strict father, but could be wrapped around his grandchildren’s little fingers. George was known for his love of fishing. His happiest times were out on the boat, on the ice, or just casting from shore at one of his favourite fishing holes, whether it was Sowden, Mainprize, Dunnet, or Nickle Lake. Anyone fishing with him enjoyed his colourful language when he wasn’t catching fish or the weather wasn’t cooperating. He also loved showing off his walleye tattoo and flashing his PAL and Ontario Outdoors cards at every opportunity. Any time he could spend in a store's sporting goods section, he would be as excited as a kid in a candy store. George was also known for his ability to talk to anyone. Literally anyone. His family has many memories of him talking to people for several minutes, as though they were old friends, only to find out that he was speaking to a complete stranger. He was especially keen to talk to anyone about classic cars, fishing, firearms, and agriculture. George loved taking road trips with Nancy to visit his family in Dundurn, Weyburn or Thunder Bay, but his favourite times were when his whole family was together in Wilcox for the holidays. George was a person that you could call if you needed help with almost anything. Near or far, he would go out of his way to help anyone that asked. He was a pillar in the community, an honest and trustworthy man, a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, friend and friendly stranger. George is survived by his mother Tillie; wife Nancy (nee Jones); four children Amanda (Marshall), Josh, Jeremy and Emily (Mark); grandchildren Mackenzie, Nathan, Kaitlyn, Hayley, Avery, Silver and Harper; siblings Bob (Heather), Bernie, Theresa (Jim), Mike (Chris) and John (Chris); he was predeceased by his father Rennie. A private memorial service will held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. To view the livestream of the service please click on the link to Speers TV at the top of George's Tribue Page.
