GAUDRY, Sidney (Sid)
Sid Gaudry, of Regina, SK passed away peacefully at home with his family on October 6, 2020 after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma (brain cancer). He was predeceased by his father, René Gaudry (1984); mother, Joan Gaudry (nee Horwood) (2004); and sister, Lorraine Gaudry (2013). Sid is survived by his wife, Caroline Gaudry (nee Andrews); sister Renée Tilney; children: Jacqueline McIlmoyl (Matt), Nichole Diewold (Mike), and Robert Gaudry (Roxanne); grandchildren: Paige, Lucy, Keira, and Henry McIlmoyl, Lauren and Thomas Diewold, Joey and Jake Gaudry; as well as many treasured nieces and nephews in Canada and England.
Sid was born in Moose Jaw, SK July 16, 1953 to René and Joan Gaudry. Joan was a war bride from Oxford, England and René was a Canadian Soldier. Sid spent many of his childhood years living in Oxford, England and Regina. Sid had an older sister Lorraine, who he called “D”, who doted on him endlessly. He attended school at St. Peter’s and O’Neill High School in Regina. Sid began working at SaskTel in 1974 as a Linesman. He spent many years as an Installer and then retired in Marketing in 2005. Sid met Caroline in 1980 through the ski patrol. She was the Zone President at that time. They spent many years teaching CPR together. Sid and Caroline were married September 4, 1982 in MacNutt, SK where they walked thorough an arch of ski poles and patrollers while exiting the church. After a few years of traveling the world, they welcomed their first child Jacqueline in 1984. Next came along Nichole in 1986, and Robert in 1988. In 1988 they took part as ski patrollers for the Calgary Olympics. Sid was one of the patrollers to assist the Jamaican bobsled team when they crashed. This was one of his proudest stories to share. In 2011, Sid learned that he had a half sister names Renée, who lived in Worthing, England. He was very excited to meet her and her family. They had an instant bond and spent countless hours making up for lost time on video chat as well as several visits in person in England and Canada.
Sid can be described as an everyday hero. He was a mix between both Q and James Bond. Not only did he know how to get the job done, he had the tools to do it. He knew how to do anything, from finishing a basement to firing a cannon. Sid lived a life of service to others. Whether it was as a Ski Patroller, through St. John Ambulance, or at church, he was always prepared to help those in need. Sid was the recipient of countless awards, medals, and honours. He showed his love through his actions. It didn’t matter if you needed a ride somewhere, if the grandkids wanted to listen to a book, or if your heart stopped and you needed CPR, he was always prepared to serve; Sid always gave his best and never gave up. These characteristics were passed on to his family who loved and supported him with a resolve that he was proud of. We will miss the camping trips, Rider games, fun times with his grandkids, skiing, and music. All are welcome to join the family in paying respects to Sid at a Covid-19 compliant, walk-through, closed-casket visitation and tribute. It will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Rd, on Friday, October 9, 2020 between 6:00-8:00 p.m. (come and go). Masks are mandatory (provided if needed). A private funeral will be held on October 10, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sid’s honour may be made to the Qu’Appelle Zone, Canadian Ski Patrol System, https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/canadian-ski-patrol-patrouille-canadienne-de-ski/.
