Obituary of Evelyn Missens

MISSENS, Evelyn (nee Obey)

Evelyn Missens (nee Obey), Old Wolf Woman (kéhté-mahihkan-iskéw), passed away peacefully with the sunrise, at All Nations Healing Hospital in Fort Qu’Appelle on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the age of 81 years. She resided at Lakeview Lodge, Standing Buffalo First Nation. Predeceased by her husband George Missens; beloved son Darrin Missens; grandson Troy Missens; parents George Obey and Eliza Obey (nee Ball); five Brothers; and one sister. Evelyn is a descendent of Chief Sitting Bull of Sioux Tribe. She is the last surviving member of the Harry Ball family. She is survived by adopted sister Cheryl Morin; children Sharon (Reg) Desjarlais, two children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild; Kevin (Brenda) Missens, five children, and eleven grandchildren; Darcy (Doris) Missens, three children, and seven grandchildren; Hilda, two children, and three grandchildren; granddaughter Shyra (Mike), four children; Trudy, four children, and six grandchildren; Edwin (Byra), two children; raised granddaughter from infancy Crystal Missens; cousin Irvin Watson and family of Rocky Boy, Montana; relatives of Mandaree, North Dakota; and numerous relatives.  The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeview Lodge for taking care of our mom/kokum. We also want to thank the doctors and nursing staff at All Nations Healing Hospital for keeping mom/kokum comfortable in her final days. Flowers most gratefully declined but those so wishing may make donations to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, 1300-522 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2R5 in our mom/kokum’s memory. Due to Covid-19 restrictions private Family Prayers will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. A private Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 3:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to view the livestream of the service by clicking on the link to Speers TV at the top of Evelyn’s Tribute Page.  Private burial will be held Thursday, October 22, 2020.
