Obituary of Melvin Gerald Hinds

Mel Hinds
August 17, 1936 - November 2, 2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mel.  We take comfort knowing he will be joined in peace with his parents Zella and Paul Hinds and his beloved daughter Karen Lynn.

Mourning his loss are his loving wife of 64 years Sophie Hinds; children Neil (Brenda) Hinds and Glen Hinds; grandkids Lyndsay (Nick) Bellemore, Darci (Dallas) Lowe and Matthew (Sandra) Hinds; step-grandchildren Faith and Arianna; and his favorite little buddies (great-grandkids) Paul, Memphis, Mollie and Jack.

Mel is survived by his siblings Carol, Laura, Irv, Bernie, Mike and Brad; his sisters- and brothers-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mel had a knack for writing.  He started a career in journalism at the Lethbridge Herald, later moving his family to work for the Winnipeg Free Press before coming to Regina to work for the Leader Post.  In 1974 Mel started with the Provincial Government as their Communications Director.

Mel and Sophie built a home and retired to Regina Beach in 1986 where they would join many clubs and take part in many volunteer activities, always enjoying life at the beach. Mel was an outdoorsman.  He loved golf, X-country skiing, hunting, and landscaping as well as exercising at the Y.

A private service will be held for the family at a later date.

His family asks that you donate and educate yourselves to help find a cure for Alzheimer's/Dementia.
