Obituary of Michael Victor Chipley
CHIPLEY, Mike
September 14, 1951 – November 24, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Mike Chipley announce he passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the Oncology Medical Ward of the Pasqua Hospital at the age 69 years. He is survived by his spouse Denise Tremblay; his mother Betty Chipley; and his sister Susan (Rod) Dusyk. Mike will also be dearly missed by the Tremblay family, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Victor Chipley. Mike was a kind and caring son, and a loving spouse. He was also generous of his time to volunteer on special events or for anyone needing his assistance. Mike had a keen sense of humour. He was working at CHAB TV in Moose Jaw, SK when it was purchased by CBC in 1969. Mike was transferred to CBC Radio in Regina shortly after and stayed for 37 years. Over his years at CBC he worked on almost every show and project imaginable. In 1971 Mike built CBC's first recording studio in Saskatchewan for Music and Drama. He recorded in the studio and outside. The Regina and Saskatoon Symphony deserved to be recorded with better equipment, but not a better person. Mike spent most of his working life in studio operating morning shows. First the English morning show, then ended his career with the French morning show, but he was most happy when he got out of the building. One of his very favorite assignments was to work on the radio broadcast at the Canadian Western Agribition. He was reliable when it came to setting up equipment for shows, and was rock solid during the shows. Some of Mike's fondest memories include working with Peter Gzowski whenever he came to Saskatchewan. He was also proud of his work in drama sound effects including a series with Donald Sutherland. Mike enjoyed being part of the technical local crew with the Royal Canadian Air Force on their occasional broadcasted performances in Regina. Although he often worked at 5AM he found time to be active in the community. Mike was a member of the Buffalo City Kinsmen Club and sat on the board of directors of the Regina Press Club, the Victoria Club and the Royal Regina Golf Club. He retired from CBC in late 2006. As Mike liked to keep active and engaged in a totally different role and responsibilities, he spent a few years as a Facilities Manager at the Royal Regina Golf Club. Mike was passionate about golfing and aircrafts; he was even a member of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society. Mike loved his trips to Vegas and Palm Springs. The family members wish to extend their gratitude to the highly dedicated staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre and the Regina Palliative Home Care, also Dr. Ndeke of the Canadian Prairie Family Clinic. Donations may be made, in memoriam, to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1 or to the Regina Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital, 4th Floor, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1. At Mike’s request, there will be no Funeral Service.
