Obituary of Laurel Anne Marshall

Laurel Anne Marshall died Nov. 20, 2010 at Regina General Hospital after a long and brave battle with cancer. It was a peaceful end to a journey that began Sept. 7, 1955 in Central Butte, Sask., when she was born to Alvin Banks Laybourne and Lillian Gertrude Laybourne. Laurel Anne attended school in Tugaske and Eyebrow before attending the Saskatchewan Institute of Technology in Moose Jaw, where she earned a diploma in accounting. She continued her professional development throughout her career, earning her Certified Management Accountant designation in 1985. Her early employment was with the Royal Bank in Maryfield and Saskatoon. She then worked briefly with SaskTel before beginning a 17-year career with the accounting firm of Clarkson and Gordon, later Ernst+Young. She concluded her professional career with the City of Regina, where she worked for 10 years, most recently as manager of corporate accounting. Despite Laurel Annes many professional commitments, she made the time to contribute to her community. As a member of the Canadian Progress Club, she chaired the 1995 Champagne Classic Golf Tournament, one of the clubs major fundraisers. The most important thing in Laurel Annes life was her family. She married Bradford William Marshall on March 1, 1986. At their home in White City, Laurel Anne and Brad raised their boys Kurtis, born Aug. 14, 1987 and Michael, born Jan. 12, 1990. Laurel Anne loved crafts, taking many classes to develop her skills, particularly with needlepoint. She also filled her days caring for the many annuals and perennials in her expansive, beautifully cared-for yard with the companionship and help? of her dog Micha. Innumerable health professionals and staff members throughout the Regina QuAppelle Health Region supported Laurel Annes battle against cancer. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude for their professionalism and caring, particularly the wonderful staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre. In addition to her husband Brad and sons Kurtis and Michael, Laurel Anne is survived by: Her brother Robert Laybourne (Sandy) of Campbell River B.C.; sister Cheryll (Denis) Bienvenue of Meadow Lake; sister Sandra (Bob) Yonge of Central Butte; brother Barry Laybourne of Tugaske; mother-in-law Shirley Marshall of Regina; brother- and sister-in-law Marlon Marshall and Irene Seiberling of Regina; brother- and sister-in-law Duff and Linda Marshall of Swift Current; sister-in-law Cindy Shmigelsky of Regina and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Laurel Annes life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 25 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave., Regina.
