Obituary of Harry Elia Hnatyszyn
Harry Hnatyszyn passed away on February 4, 2021 in Regina, SK. He was born in Outlook, SK on January 26, 1940. In his younger years, Harry and his family moved around Southern Saskatchewan for his father’s work with the railroad. He participated in sports including curling, hockey and baseball. The family eventually settled in Saskatoon. Harry went to school at Bedford Road Collegiate. After that he worked at Western Grocers during his early career, where he met the love of his life, Joan Hnatyszyn (nee Colvin). Subsequently, Harry joined SaskPower, initially as a journeyman mechanic in the Queen Elizabeth Power Plant in Saskatoon, but quickly worked his way up to management positions in Estevan and Regina. Following his retirement from SaskPower after more than 30 years, Harry still liked to stay active and worked at Sears in Regina for many years. In his later years he finally retired to spend time with his family and grandkids. Harry was a consummate family man, spending his free time with his family and raising his two children while supporting their interests. He also spent his time caring for his wife, Joan, in her battle with advanced dementia. Harry was an avid gardener, a master at crossword and jigsaw puzzles and he enjoyed time spoiling his pet English Bulldogs. He maintained his interest in sports including curling, hockey and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Harry also enjoyed visiting his grandchildren in California. He is survived by his children, Deanna Spiker and James (Terri) Hnatyszyn; grandchildren, Ronnie Spiker, Shae-Lynn Spiker, Jack Hnatyszyn and Zoey Hnatyszyn; siblings, Victor (Shirley) Hnatyszyn and Eva Leibel; and many nieces, nephews and their children. Harry was predeceased by his wife, Joan Hnatyszyn; sisters, Pearl Quinney and Mary Richardson; and parents, Dmytro and Stephania Hnatyszyn.
