Obituary of Sun Wai Tam

SUN WAI TAM It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of Sun Wai Tam at the age of 90. Sun Wai passed away peacefully Monday, March 4, 2013 surrounded by his children. He was predeceased by his wife Mary; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sing Gar Tam; his brothers, See Tam and Ching Chee Tam; and his sister Moo Leung. Sun Wai was born on December 20, 1922 in Canton, China. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1965. Sun Wai worked in the family restaurant in Estevan, SK until retiring in Regina in 1989. During this time Sun Wai along with his wife Mary raised four children. As their children started their own families he made it a tradition to visit every family frequently and have family reunions. He enjoyed the times when they were all together. The grandchildren were enlightened by his stories and filled by the plentiful and delicious food in his home. We will always remember how happy he was to see us together. Sun Wai is survived by his four children, Kathy (Arthur) Mah of Slave Lake, Norman (Maggie) Tom of Vancouver, Dale (Winnie) Tam of Vancouver, Ken (Lavinia) Tam of Regina; and eight grandchildren, Nancy Mah (Berlin, Germany), Karen Mah (Vancouver), Michelle (Tim) VanGilder (Mission Viejo, CA), Vincent and Heather Tom (Vancouver), Kevin Tam (Edmonton), Landon and Benson Tam (Regina); his two sisters-in-law, Kay (Hamm) Chow of Estevan and their families, and Rose (Tim) Woo of Toronto and their families. A Private Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Speers Funeral Chapel.
