Obituary of Myles Gibbons
GIBBONS, Harry Myles Sr.
August 5, 1933 to June 19, 2021
The family of Harry "Myles" Gibbons is sad to announce his passing on June 19, 2021, after a short illness. He was predeceased by his wife Irene; parents Harry and Lela (Brown); son Myles; siblings Clive, David (Bruce), Helen, and Sonyia; and brother-in-law, Percy Bronson. Myles is survived by his daughters Karen (Al McDonald), Jan, Lyla Deis, and Susan (Matt) Folk; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; in-laws Donna Gibbons, Delores and Jack Knill, Murray and Kathy Strankay, and Bill Woods; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Myles lived his early years in the Village of North Regina, attended Scott Collegiate, served in the Canadian army reserve, and was employed for forty-two years at the Co-op Refinery. He married the love of his life, Irene, in 1954 and together they raised five children. His passion was playing and watching sports of all kinds. He played football, fastball, hockey, golf - anything competitive. Myles was a member of the downtown YMCA from the age of nine until the sad day it closed in 2020. He was also a member of the Regina Golf Club for years. He loved a good Irish song, crossword puzzles, poetry, puns, and, to our dismay, very bad jokes.
For most of their married life, Myles and Irene met at 4:30 somewhere for happy hour. We imagine that they are able to meet again for a cold one to share stories and visit friends. “Cheers Dad! We will miss you.”
Myles requested that there be no funeral service. There will be a private family interment at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations to the YMCA in Myles's memory may be made and are appreciated. To leave an online message of condolences, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com.
