Obituary of Jean de Vienne

de Vienne, Jean

Dec 24, 1925 - July 25, 2021

Jean de Vienne, born as John Toth, passed away peacefully at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home in Regina, SK.  He is survived by his daughter Jo-Ann and three sons, John, James and Robert; grandchildren Wayne, Jordan and Brooke; and great-grand child Jersey.  He is also survived by and was predeceased by a number of family in Austria.   Jean immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s and became a Canadian Citizen on September 11, 1964.  He started to work on farms and also moved houses until he found his passion of photography. He opened up a photography studio and called it Vienna Photo Studio because it reminded him of his homeland, Austria. Our father loved taking photos of weddings, family portraits, and many other events. He felt he was capturing history and memories through his photos of our lives when we were celebrating something very important.  Our father excelled in his love of photography by starting with taking baby pictures at the Regina General Hospital and the Pasqua Hospital. This also allowed him to do a lot of the cap and gown ceremonies for the graduating classes of nurses through SIAST. Jean was always happy when he had a camera in his hands because this was his true joy. His passion for photography made him always think outside the box. He started double imaging of photos, especially for weddings, where he would place the groom in the back and the bride in the front. Jean accomplished many things in his life and always tried his best. In 1991 he made a personal choice to change his name from John Toth to Jean de Vienne.  There were many reasons why, but two of the most important were his love of French and his love of his birthplace. In the mid 90’s our father suffered a major heart attack but after surgery he recovered to live a long life.  In his retirement he found another love – gardening.  He would be out there every day and grew some tall sunflowers.  He also took up canning and enjoyed the rewards the gardens offered.  Following Jean’s wishes there will be no Funeral Service. Donations may be made, in memory of Jean, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave #26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9.
