Obituary of Kathleen Ida Desjarlais

DESJARLAIS, Ida Kathleen (Ida Red)

January 15, 1943 – July 31, 2021

Ida Kathleen Desjarlais, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the age of 78 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Felix and Charlotte (nee Gordon) Sugar; her daughter Naomi; her sons, Todd and Shawn; her sisters Ruby Gopher (John) and Alice Cappo (Samuel); her grandsons Mervin Jordan Missens, Kelly Cappo, James and Garner Kaiswatum; her granddaughter Colleen Cappo; her nephews, Brian and Darryl Cappo, and Lindsay Gopher; her nieces Germaine and Janice Cappo, Rosemary, Wendy, and Rhonda Gopher; and in-laws Ambrose Kaiswatum and Mervin Sr and Lorna Missens.

She is survived by her children, Deidre Missens (Mervin Jr) and Jason Desjarlais; her grandchildren Joe, Justin, and Jessica Missens, and Alex and Raven Desjarlais; 19 great-grandchildren; her brother Gordon Desjarlais; her sister Anne Kaiswatum; special cousin Oliver Sugar (Moose); her nieces, Mindy Cappo (Trevor) and Maxine Keewatin (Steve), Shirley, Donna, Marilyn Kaiswatum; nephews, John and Neil Gopher, and Charles, Randy, Jason, Darryl Kaiswatum; as well as many other relatives, too numerous to mention.

Special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit for the compassion and care given to Ida and her family during this difficult time, as well as thanks to Speers Funeral Chapel.

Services and prayers will be held at The Indigenous Christian Fellowship Church at 3131 Dewdney Avenue on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. Traditional wake and ceremony will be held at Piapot hall on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. with elder Murray Ironchild officiating. Pallbearers Joe Missens, Mika McNab, Jason Kaiswatum, Thomas Wolfe, Mitch Sugar, and Clarence Chickinew. Burial at Piapot Main Cemetery Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
