Lesia was born February 4, 1938, in Regina, SK to John and Anastazia (Nell) Zenchyshyn.  She lived with her family in Drake, SK, Grenfell, SK and then in 1948, Regina became her home.

Lesia graduated from Balfour Collegiate.  After the completion of high school, Lesia enrolled in the Secretarial course and became a secretary at Balfour Collegiate.  It was soon after this that she met Ernie and her life changed forever.

As our family grew Mom embraced the role of being a “Baba” and epitomized what it meant to care for her grandchildren. Her ability to soothe a grandchild with her sweet voice was truly a gift. As time passed the sweet sounds of her voice transformed into sounds of joy when she watched any one of her family members compete in their chosen sport.

Mom’s interest in sport began at a young age. Her love of sport developed into a unique ability to recall athletes and major moments in sports. Her admiration for local sports teams ran deep. However, she truly felt at home when she watched the Regina Red Sox. For years, Mom and Dad hosted family and friends in the front row behind home plate. They shared bags of licorice, boxes of popcorn and many stories under the lights of Currie Field.

From a young age Mom learned the importance of being involved in the Ukrainian community and her church. She spent years volunteering her time at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Descent of the Holy Spirit, as a member of the sisterhood. Together with many wonderful friends, Mom and Dad helped develop the strong Ukrainian community we see in our city today.

The landscape of the Qu’Appelle Valley was a view Mom cherished. For years, Mom and Dad have had property at Pasqua Lake where they hosted many events for family and friends. The scene of Mom and Dad on the deck looking out over the horizon together is a special memory for every one of us.

We, the family, wish to thank the entire staff of College Park II with an extra special thank you to the staff of the dementia unit as your care and love for “Baba” was unconditional.

There will be a private family ceremony on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.  To leave an online message of condolence and to view the livestream of the service, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
