September 15, 1954 - September 21, 2021

The family of Ian On Ming Hall is deeply saddened to announce his passing on the morning of September 21, 2021 at the age of 67.

Ian grew up in Enping, Guangdong, China and moved to Canada with his family in 1981 in hopes of a better life. A few years later he met and married Ho Ng and soon after started a family.  Ian and his late brother Quinn owned and operated a successful Chinese food restaurant in Lethbridge, Alberta.  Upon the sale of the restaurant in 2004 Ian travelled around Western Canada working at various Chinese restaurants in places such as Medicine Hat, Sicamous and Big White, before settling back in Regina. One of his greatest joys in life was becoming a “gung gung.”

Ian was not a man of many words, but he worked tirelessly to provide his children with opportunities that he did not have. Ian was an avid reader who taught himself how to navigate the stock market, run a successful business, manage properties, and a multitude of other things.  Throughout his life, Ian felt a strong connection with his Chinese heritage, and was always willing to offer advice and help with Chinese traditions and customs, including his beautiful calligraphy that he took so much pride in.

Ian is survived by his wife Ho Ng Hall, son Allan Hall, daughter Tina (Cory) Gooch, brothers Ging (Fay) Hall and Guan (Becky) Hall, sister He Mao Ju (Chan Lui Gee), sister-in-law Karen Yee, numerous nieces and nephews, and grandchildren Charlie and Isabelle Gooch. Ian is predeceased by his parents Rong Nu and Jeng Nu Hall and brother Quinn Ming Hall.

He will be lovingly remembered by his friends and family.

A Funeral Service with Reverend David Fong officiating will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East.  In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be made in Ian’s honour to the Canadian Cancer Society.
