Obituary of Joseph John Gallenger

Joseph John Gallenger passed away on August 19, 2010. Born in September 1925, Joseph is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Leona in 1997, his son Jim in 2009, his parents, Joseph Sr. and Elsie, brother Gene (Yank), sisters Marie, Irene, Agnes and Velma. He is survived by his special little sister Pat Lasby and brothers Albert and Steve. He also leaves to mourn his passing, his children Darlene (Ken) Spock, Brenda (Mike) Abrahamowicz, his youngest son Joseph Michael (Mick) as well as Jims wife, daughter-in-law, Sharon Gallenger. He leaves behind nine grandchildren Aaron, Ian (Amanda) and Colin (Pamela) Spock, Joshua, Jennifer and Jeffrey Abrahamowicz, Trevor Gallenger (Kim), Crystal Muhr (Curtis) and Joseph (Joey) Gallenger, as well as three great-grandchildren, Tanner and Lukas Gallenger and Kennedy Danielle Spock. Joe took over his fathers shoe repair business on Victoria Avenue and spent many long days building his business side by side with his wife Lee, before leaving it to join the RCMP as a civilian member in what was once called the saddle shop. He spent many years working on boots, bridles, belts, and holsters and meeting all the recruits that had to pass through his shop. He made many lifelong friends there and working for the RCMP was the absolute pride of his life. He attended uncounted graduations, hockey tournaments and other events with pleasure and pride at being asked, even long after his retirement in 1995. Thank you guys, you cant begin to imagine what that meant to him. He was a supporter of many charities, his favourite being the RCMP museum. Joe spent many hours attending to his yard and garden, taking pride in this, as he did in all that he put his hand to. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina.
