Obituary of Margaret Prestawski

Margaret, late of Regina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Predeceased by her parents Andreas and Franziska Falkenberg; husband Stefan Prestawski; sons Perry Prestawski (in infancy) and Josef Falkenberg; brothers Otto Falkenberg, Josef Falkenberg and Wilhelm Falkenberg; and sister Johanna Proplesch. Margaret is survived by her grandson Roland (Resi) Falkenberg of Germany, sister Gertrud Laskowski of Germany, niece Konnie (Paul Chang) Falkenberg (Derick, Cassandra and Michael Chang) of Regina, longtime family friend Alex Klotz and family of Regina as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret was born and raised in Germany. She immigrated to Regina with her husband, Stefan, a shoemaker, in 1951. Together, they owned and operated Slanys Shoe Repair, located where the Cornwall Centre now stands. After their shop was destroyed by a devastating fire, Margaret and Stefan retired. They enjoyed gardening, as well as fishing and boating at their cottage at Sorensons Beach on Long Lake. Margaret was an avid sports fan who enjoyed nothing better than cheering on her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders. As her health faded, she was unable to continue to live independently in her home on Montreal Street. For the past 19 months, she resided at Wascana Heights House. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff who so lovingly cared for her. Prayers for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Divine Liturgy will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1757 Toronto Street, Regina with Rt. Rev. Vladimir Mudri officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
