Obituary of Muriel Margaret Knox

MURIEL MARGARET KNOX On August 27, 2010, Muriel M. Knox passed away at age 101 in Regina Pioneer Village, 10 days after suffering a stroke. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce Knox, her parents James and Agnes Argue, her brothers Edgar and Lloyd Argue and her sister Mabel Hodder. She is survived by her daughter Evelyn Rogers, son Keith Knox, grandchildren Heather Herrell (Bill Morton), Ian Rogers (Liz Ormiston), James Knox and Rob Knox (Kate Smart), great grandchildren Jessica Herrell, Amelia and Caleb Rogers, Valentina Knox and Bronwyn Knox, nephew Jim Argue (Laura Argue) and sisters-in-law Muriel Snell, Joyce Wellings and Alma Medhurst. Muriel was born April 15, 1909 on her parents farm near Grenfell, SK. She attended Faulkner School #54. In 1920, the family moved to a farm near Rouleau, SK. where she finished her schooling. She trained as a teacher at the Saskatchewan Normal School in Regina then taught at Cunard School #4611, a one room school in the Rouleau district. After her parents moved to a farm near Grand Coulee, SK. in 1928, Muriel taught at the consolidated school there. She married Bruce Knox, also from Grand Coulee, in 1934 in St. Andrews United Church in Regina. They became life-long members of that church, residing near its north central Regina location for the rest of their lives. St. Andrews United Church and all its activities were very important to Muriel. In 1960, she became its Christian Education Director. She was particularly proud of her involvement in the development and implementation of the New Curriculum?, a revolutionary new teaching concept the United Church adopted nationally. Muriel was born to teach. Teaching people how to teach others was the highlight of Muriels life. She was a passionate volunteer. As a tour guide with the Regina Plains Museum, she spent her later years sharing her knowledge and experience with younger generations. Muriel and Bruce also loved traveling across Canada and the U.S. Their many adventures in their little Ventura trailer kept them young at heart. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in January, 2004. Bruce passed away one month later. A life well lived, bright and active to the end, Muriel died peacefully in the arms of her daughter Evelyn. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. The Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 31, 2010. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Muriels memory to the Regina Plains Museum, 1835 Scarth Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2G0 or the Recreation Fund at Regina Pioneer Village c/o Hospitals of Regina Foundation, PO Box 1697 Station Main, Regina, SK, S4P 9Z9.
