Obituary of Olive Kelln

It is with profound sadness that the family of Olive Muriel Kelln announces her passing on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in the Pasqua Hospital at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her parents John and Edith Williams; husband George on June 9, 2009; sisters Florence, Edith, Rita, Dorothy and Ruth; and brother Cecil. Left to cherish her memory are her son Leslie (Helen) of Weyburn and his family: daughter Mandy (Dave) Windecker, and their children Ava and Emma, and sons Derek (Janine) and Morgan (Ginger) and their daughters Sara and Maya; and her son Ian (Marlene) of Raymore and their children Lance, Kendra and Marlon. Olive attended Bishop Spencer College, a Church Of England Girls School in St Johns, Newfoundland. After she graduated, she worked for the Mutual Life Insurance Company. During the war, she was employed by the US Army Transport where she met her husband, who was with the Canadian Army. Olive and George were married on June 4, 1945. Their first son, Leslie was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Olive, George and Leslie moved to Saskatchewan in 1947 to begin the family farm. Olive made the change from city life to farm life with great resolve. Their second son, Ian was born in 1952. During the years on the farm, she raised her family and was very active in the community; she worked as both a Librarian and was also part of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Anglican Church. Olive supported both her sons as they sought higher education and advanced their careers. In 1976, George and Olive purchased Olives dream home on Angus Boulevard in Regina, where they spent their winters until 1982 when they retired from farming and resided in Regina on a full time basis. Olives interests included reading, playing bridge, visiting with friends, Casino Regina and watching with great pride as her sons lives unfolded. Those who knew her well will remember that she loved a good hot cup of tea with milk and lots of sugar. Olive always put the needs of others before her own. She always held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren. Olives wishes were for her sons to hold a private graveside service for her. The family would like to extend their thanks to Bertas Personal Care Home and the staff on Unit 3-B at the Pasqua Hospital. Flowers gratefully declined. Those so wishing, may make donations in Olives memory to the Govan Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 160, Govan, SK, S0G 1Z0.
