It devastates me to announce the sudden and unexpected death of my soulmate and husband, Warren Weber on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at the shockingly young age of 45. He was rushed to the Regina General Hospital, from his work at the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan on the previous Thursday, where he successfully received emergency brain surgery and was then taken to the SICU to continue his recovery. The care Warren received while in hospital was simply amazing. The kind and compassionate staff went above and beyond to not only support Warren and all of his needs, but also me and my loved ones as well.
Warren was beloved by so many. He had a little bit of a tougher, introverted exterior at times. But once he got to know you, and if he trusted you, he allowed you a generous slice of his intelligent, wildly witty, outrageous, direct, and forth -coming, silly, goofy, and softer side of himself. This was the Warren I fell in love with from the very first online message and from then on had the privilege of spending everyday with during our short but jam-packed time together. Warren was happiest at home spending time with me and the cats (kiddos) in the backyard or inside. Wherever we were is where he wanted to be, and this made him his happiest. I feel fortunate to have just spent his four weeks of holidays in August doing exactly this together. These memories will help to hopefully bring me comfort over the coming days and months and eventually joy as I look back at our last moments spent together.
Warren was predeceased by his mother Darlene (Dee) Weber and his father-in-law Lyle Benko. He is survived by Paula, his partner in crime and his best friend of 27 years (21 married); his cats Duke and Duchess; his father Arthur Weber; brother Wade (Jamie) Weber and their children Caine and Brody; mother-in-law Donna Benko; brother in-law Dean (Kirsten) Benko and their children Emma and Andrew; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of the family.
Our family extends special thanks to Warren’s Neurosurgeon, Dr. Zwai who not only performed the successful surgery and was there to guide us through the first scary few hours and days, but also continued to check in on him throughout the weekend and the week even when he wasn’t on call. We also extend our gratitude to the entire team of specialist doctors and nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, and pharmacy staff, as well as the several residents and students doing their practicum in nursing or other areas that were part of the exceptional care Warren received. Dr. Rao was with us almost the entire week and his calm, understanding and patient manner during this scary time was a huge comfort. He was a welcome face to see during rounds and his timely teaching and even humour, when appropriate, went a long way to help guide us during this tragedy. We also want to recognize Warren’s wonderful and caring staff at the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan for their quick thinking and immediate response once they found him as well as the staff from Regina Emergency Medical Services who transported him to the Regina General Hospital in a timely manner.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Regina Humane Society, 79 Armour Road, R.M. of Sherwood, SK S4K 0A8. Warren had a deep love for all types of nature including all living beings, but he had a special connection with animals like cats, dogs, and guinea pigs.
A Celebration of Warren’s Life will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Bar Willow Eatery, 3000 Wascana Drive, Regina, SK. There will be a brief program at 2:30 p.m. There will be plenty of hugs, condolences, memories, laughter, crying, sharing, loving and more. Food will be served and there will be a cash bar. In honour of Warren’s love for his “Silly Shirts with Sayings”, we encourage everyone to wear your favourite shirt or even better your favourite shirt with a saying.
