It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother (nanny), great grandmother and dear friend to many, Joan Anne Hagen (nee Walters) on October 17, 2022, at the age of 87. Mom passed away peacefully with her loving family at her bedside while in the compassionate care of Cherished Hearts Care Home in Regina, SK. Mom is survived by her 3 children; Troy (Judy); Darren (Denise); Sharon (Bob); 4 grandchildren Lisa (Alex), Landon (Jeanine), Zoe (Joel) and Sophia (Maddy); 2 great grandsons Jax and Nate; step granddaughters Natielle and Karlee; sister Beverly Bell; niece Toby; and nephew Asher. She was predeceased by our remarkable and thoroughly missed but never forgotten dad, Cliff Hagen, to whom mom was devotedly and lovingly married to for 59 years; her mother Anne Walters; brother-in-law Ben Bell; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and treasured friends. Mom was born during the great recession in 1934 and she and her sister Bev were raised in Regina by their single mom in a period of great uncertainty during WWII. She attended Scott Collegiate and as a young lady she started working at Sask. Wheat Pool. In the early 1950’s she met dad, the true love of her life, and they married in 1955. After a brief stint in Saskatoon, they returned to Regina. From 1958-1964 their three children were born. Early on in their marriage they purchased their new home where mom would continue to reside for a few years after dad passed in 2014. Over that 60-year period “things” came and went but the one constant in life was the hospitality and loving home that mom created along with dad. Mom had many talents and interests but none greater than being a wife, mother, nanny and beautiful home maker. She relished in being a traditional stay at home mom and did a masterful job. She loved her kids with all her heart and was thrilled “over the moon” when grandchildren and greatgrandchildren arrived. A lifetime of memories was made at the “family cottage” at Last Mountain Lake. Family meals were important to mom and her legacy lives on through her kids and grandkids. Her classy demeanor and infectious laughter will be missed by us all but never forgotten. Mom and dad were blessed to have a beautiful network of friends that have lasted, in many cases, over 60 years. Mom loved to travel whether it be to Palm Springs, to visit her sister, and other lifelong friends as well as Hawaii, Mexico or within Canada to the Okanagan. After dad’s passing, life took a rather cruel turn for mom as she had been struggling with Alzheimer’s for the past number of years. What was once taken for granted and easy to do became challenging or unattainable. Adjustments were made and very regular and frequent visits from her children continued. While it was difficult on everyone, we are all thankful that we were there for mom, and we were comforted in knowing that she had very good, compassionate, and loving care at Cherished Hearts.
