MARY BRODNER (nee CHOMYN) (formerly AUGUST) May 2, 1943 October 13, 2010 It is with great sadness Marys family announces her passing after a long and hard battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Jerome Brodner; son Brian August (Sheena); sister Sophie Chomyn; niece Elsie and great-nephews Michael and Marshall; sister Ann Chomyn; sister Stella Vernon and nephews Mike and John; brother Steve Chomyn and niece Dorianne; brother Bill Chomyn (Sandi) and nephews Jamie, Jason and great-niece Taylor, and Jarred; brother Mike Chomyn, many in-laws and other family members. She is predeceased by her first husband, Patrick August and her parents Michael and Mary Chomyn. Mary grew up on her farm near Montmartre. As a child, Mary worked hard on the farm running machinery and stooking sheaves. At seventeen, she moved to Regina. She trained in the nursing field and became a caregiver on the wards and in the operating room. Mary ended her 35 years at the Regina General Hospital as the Supervisor of the Instrument Room. She was a landlord and handyperson, never scared to tackle any project. Mary loved to garden, do crosswords and play cards, and she was always busy in the kitchen. She was hardworking, generous and eager to help people. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010 in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010 in Holy Child RC Church, 2636 7th Avenue East, Regina. Interment will follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. Thanks to all the staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre and the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit for all of their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, people are invited to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1919 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3 or to the Holy Child Memorial Fund, 2636 7th Avenue East, Regina, SK, S4N 6A3.
